The Americanization of Moto Grand Prix
|
| This is
a Yamaha TZ 250 Kenny Roberts Style. This is the bike that put
America in the running in European Moto Grand Prix. While I raced
in California, Kenny Roberts went to Europe to race Grand Prix against
Europe's finest, and won. They didn't like this very much.
They considered Moto GP their sport, and a scrappy red head kicked their
buts on their home turf. |
 |
|
Roberts is basically responsible for popularizing the sport in the U S.
When I was in school in Rome, Giacomo Augustini was the moto GP champ.
He ruled the track and was an Italian Hero. I beleive he rode to
victory on MV Agusta, and Laverada motorcycles. Pictured to the
right is a Moto Morini 500 V Twin. |
 |
| Here is
a little Ducati single , very similar to the Moto Gilera 124.
These smaller bikes are amazingly fun to race . Its a skill track
and Vintage is the typical class to enter. You will notice however
the single cylindar on the Ducati has an over head cam shaft, un like
the Moto Gilera which utilized push rods. Small yet powerful. |
